The De’Longhi KG89 is worth considering if you want an electric coffee grinder for a straightforward filter-coffee routine. Malaysian listings checked on 4 October 2026 put it at RM369–RM389. Its appeal is simple controls and a removable grounds container; its main buying question is whether those controls suit your brewing method.

Malaysia price and warranty
De’Longhi Malaysia listed RM389 and an included two-year warranty; espressolab listed RM369. These are advertised prices checked on 4 October 2026, not guaranteed checkout totals or stock promises. Compare delivery charges, the exact KG89 model and local support before paying.
The official store’s terms qualify coverage and exclude accessories and parts from the stated product warranty provision. Do not automatically transfer that coverage to another seller or an imported set. Ask who handles the claim, keep the invoice and confirm coverage in writing.
What you get in daily use
The official specification lists flat stainless-steel burrs, 16 grind settings, a 120g bean hopper and a 150g grounds container. Its roughly 13 × 16cm footprint and 26cm height make counter planning straightforward, although you still need clearance to open the lid. The removable upper burr gives access for cleaning.
The cup selector is convenient for repeating a household routine, but it is not a weighing scale. The manual treats its dose guidance as approximate. For repeatable recipes, weigh the beans or grounds rather than assuming every numbered setting gives a fixed gram dose.
Filter coffee versus espresso
Our recommendation is strongest for buyers starting with filter coffee who value electric convenience. The manufacturer’s manual assigns medium grinding to drip and moka brewing and fine grinding to espresso. Those labels are starting points, not proof that every bean, recipe or espresso basket will work equally well.
If your priority is dialling in an unpressurised espresso basket, the KG89 is a cautious purchase. We have no shot-testing evidence establishing its adjustment precision for your machine. Ask for a demonstration with the intended basket, or choose a grinder with verified espresso performance. A familiar brand name alone does not settle compatibility.
Pros and compromises
- Pros: accessible controls, a small counter footprint and removable parts for routine cleaning.
- Compromises: cup-based dosing needs calibration; 16 steps offer a finite adjustment range; espresso suitability needs checking.
- Best fit: a small household moving from pre-ground coffee to grinding before brewing.
- Poor fit: frequent back-to-back batches or an espresso enthusiast seeking very fine adjustment.
Upkeep and ownership costs
Switch off and unplug before cleaning. Brush the burr area and follow the manual for removing and refitting the upper burr; keep the grinding mechanism dry and never immerse the appliance. The manual also calls for at least five minutes’ rest after grinding a 12-cup batch, which matters when serving several rounds.
Budget for coffee beans and, if useful, a separate scale. We found no verified Malaysian replacement-burr price, so have not invented an annual maintenance figure. Ask De’Longhi’s Malaysian service network about parts and repair charges before assuming a cheap long-term repair.
Buying verdict
At the checked RM369–RM389 prices, the KG89 is a reasonable shortlist option for simple filter-coffee use. Buy only if its dosing routine and cleaning requirements fit your mornings. For espresso-led plans, settle grinder-and-basket compatibility first. Check the current offer, delivery total and seller warranty before ordering.
