Bone-Conduction Headphones Malaysia: OpenRun, Pro 2 or OpenSwim Pro? (October 2026)

The useful question is not which Shokz has the biggest number in its name, but where you will listen. For October 2026 Malaysian buyers, OpenRun Pro 2 is our best overall land-training choice, OpenRun is the value option for uncomplicated Bluetooth workouts, and OpenSwim Pro is the specialist for swimming plus dry-land use. The three have different audio architectures, water limits and music workflows; they are not three colours of the same headset.

NOVE Malaysia’s exact variant data, reopened on 3 October 2026, showed OpenRun Standard Black S803BK available at RM649, OpenRun Pro 2 Standard Black S820-ST-BK available at RM899, and OpenSwim Pro Standard Grey S710-ST-GY available at RM999. Check the selected size and colour at checkout; availability can change between reading this guide and paying.

Open ears are a listening preference, not a safety guarantee

These headsets leave the ear canal unsealed and can make surrounding sound easier to notice than a sealed earbud. That is not permission to stop checking traffic or turn up audio until it masks everything else. They are not hearing protection, medical treatment or a promise of safer cycling. If isolation from a train carriage or powerful bass in a noisy gym is the main priority, a different headphone category may be more appropriate.

Fit also deserves attention. Our OpenRun and Pro 2 selections use the Standard rear band, not Mini. Try the band with your glasses, cap or helmet and check whether it meets a collar when you look up. OpenSwim Pro has one size rather than the same Standard/Mini choice. Manufacturer battery figures below are advertised maxima, not our measured running times.

Shokz OpenRun Standard Black: best value for straightforward exercise

Shokz OpenRun Standard Black

Shokz OpenRun Standard Black is RM649. It uses eighth-generation PremiumPitch 2.0+ bone conduction, with Bluetooth 5.1. The exact weight of the selected local magnetic-charging variant has not been established, so a global USB-C variant’s weight is not assigned to it. Up to eight hours of music and calls covers a different use case from all-day playback, while a ten-minute quick charge is advertised to provide up to 1.5 hours.

The selected Malaysian S803BK package uses magnetic charging. Shokz’s global page also sells newer USB-C variants, but that does not change this retailer’s exact package. Keeping the magnetic cable in your training bag is therefore part of ownership; a generic phone cable is not a substitute. The IP67 rating is useful for sweat and rain exposure within the manufacturer’s conditions, but Shokz explicitly says OpenRun is not for swimming.

Pros and cons of OpenRun

Pros: it saves RM250 against Pro 2, is lighter on the published figures, and provides a relatively simple phone-to-headset workflow without maintaining an onboard song library. For someone who already carries a phone on runs, that is the economical starting point.

Cons: there is no verified onboard MP3 storage, the magnetic charger adds another cable, and the eight-hour claim is shorter than Pro 2’s twelve. Its water rating must not be treated as pool compatibility. We have not measured sound leakage, so it should not be sold as inaudible to nearby people.

Buy OpenRun for regular land workouts when price and low listed weight matter more than new sound features. Avoid it if you want pool audio, a universal USB-C charging routine or the longest advertised battery life in this comparison.

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Standard Black: best overall on land

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Standard Black
Shokz · https://shokz.com/products/openrunpro2 · Official manufacturer catalogue: owner-authorized editorial use, not a copyright licence

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Standard Black costs RM899. Its DualPitch system combines a bone-conduction driver with a separate air-conduction driver for bass. That makes it a hybrid design rather than simply a stronger version of OpenRun’s vibration system. Shokz advertises up to twelve hours of playback, approximately one hour for a full charge and 30.3 g weight, with USB-C charging.

The practical upgrade is a less specialised charging cable, four additional advertised playback hours and more sound-adjustment choices through the Shokz app. NOVE describes wind-resistant, noise-cancelling microphones for calls. This is microphone processing, not active noise cancellation that blocks surrounding sound for the listener. We cannot turn the manufacturer’s call claim into a guarantee that every windy road conversation will be clear.

Advantages and drawbacks of Pro 2

Advantages: Pro 2 is the strongest all-round choice here for a runner who listens often, wants the hybrid sound design and values USB-C convenience. EQ options can help tune the presentation, and the device can operate without the app. RM250 over OpenRun buys changes that affect daily use rather than just a different finish.

Drawbacks: its IP55 rating is for sweat and rain resistance, not swimming, showers or sauna use. The published weight is higher than OpenRun’s, and it still lacks the verified onboard storage that makes OpenSwim Pro independent of a phone. A premium price does not produce sealed-headphone isolation.

Choose Pro 2 for dry-land training and frequent music or call use. Skip it if swimming is the defining activity or if your existing OpenRun already meets your battery and sound needs. Do not disable phone listening safeguards merely to compete with street noise.

Shokz OpenSwim Pro Standard Grey: the pool specialist

Shokz OpenSwim Pro Standard Grey
Shokz · https://shokz.com/products/openswimpro · Official manufacturer catalogue: owner-authorized editorial use, not a copyright licence

Shokz OpenSwim Pro Standard Grey is RM999. It combines Bluetooth listening on land with 32 GB of onboard audio storage for MP3 mode. Shokz lists IP68 protection and immersion up to two metres, while NOVE specifies up to two hours under that condition. This is not a diving headset or an unrestricted salt-water guarantee.

The key limitation is decisive: Bluetooth does not work underwater. Pool listening uses files already transferred from a computer through the supplied four-pin magnetic cable. Supported formats include MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, M4A, APE and WMA. A streaming service’s protected offline downloads are not automatically exportable music files, so check that your intended library can actually be transferred before paying.

Manufacturer figures give up to nine hours in Bluetooth mode and six in MP3 mode, a 1.5-hour charge and 27.3 g weight. Those two battery figures should not be merged into a nine-hour swimming claim. Shokz also says OpenSwim and OpenSwim Pro charging cables are different; a spare from the older model cannot be assumed compatible.

Pros and drawbacks of OpenSwim Pro

Pros: onboard storage solves an actual pool-connectivity problem, while Bluetooth avoids needing a second headset for land use. The extra RM100 over Pro 2 is justified when swimming is a regular activity and the file workflow is acceptable.

Drawbacks: the onboard library takes preparation, MP3-mode endurance is shorter, and there is only one band size. Shokz’s current global FAQ has conflicting seawater statements; this guide does not promise ocean suitability. Confirm salt-water conditions and maintenance with the Malaysian seller before using it outside a pool.

Buy it for lane swimming plus land exercise, not because IP68 sounds like an upgrade everyone needs. Avoid it if you only stream from your phone and will not transfer audio files, or require Mini sizing. Inspect the local box contents rather than assuming every global accessory is included.

Local warranty, delivery and the final choice

NOVE’s Shokz policy states a two-year limited manufacturer warranty for new products bought from official or authorised channels, with purchase evidence required. Unauthorised stores are excluded, misuse and immersion outside specifications are not covered, and replacement may be refurbished. A replacement does not restart the original warranty period; the policy describes replacement rather than repair.

The shipping policy lists DHL delivery, one to two working days of processing and a target of seven working days that is not guaranteed. Published starting rates are RM10 for West Malaysia and RM30 for East Malaysia, while the storefront advertises free shipping above RM120. Confirm the checkout treatment for your postcode, especially Kuching or Sabah, rather than choosing whichever statement is cheaper.

Our verdict is Pro 2 for frequent land training, OpenRun for value, and OpenSwim Pro for genuine swimming needs. Paying more should solve a charging, endurance or underwater-library problem you actually have. None of these choices warrants invented health benefits, waterproof charging or a promise that open ears remove traffic risk.
