A video doorbell is useful only if it fits the entrance, the charging routine and the recording you expect. Among these three current Malaysian offers, TP-Link Tapo D235 is our overall choice for its wider 180° view and option to move from battery power to hardwired recording. Tapo D210 is the lower-cost choice for straightforward visitor alerts. Tapo D230S1 is the situational pick when a removable battery and hub-based local storage matter more than a hardwire upgrade.
This is a researched specification-and-offer comparison, not a hands-on security test. Offers were checked on 30 October 2026: D210 at RM249 from Eleco, D230S1 at RM349 from SIC Digital, and D235 at RM399 from Superbuy. Eleco and SIC’s product data showed the selected models purchasable and in stock. Superbuy’s D235 page offered quantity ordering; its stated delivery estimate remains conditional on stock and shipping location. None is a guaranteed delivered checkout total for Kuching.

1. TP-Link Tapo D210: spend less for the basic doorstep job

The D210 is a 2K 3MP doorbell with a 160° diagonal field of view, an included indoor chime, two-way audio and quick responses. TP-Link’s Malaysian page specifically describes free person detection, activity zones and colour night vision using a spotlight. This is enough to explain its role: seeing a visitor and responding to a courier without paying for the more elaborate feature set of the other models.
Its 6400mAh battery is built in. The advertised 180-day figure assumes 300 seconds of recording and live viewing per day; the manufacturer says settings, usage, router and environment can change that. A busy shared corridor can therefore be a poor match for someone expecting half a year without attention. Plan how you will recharge it before choosing a mounting position that is difficult to reach.
Pros
- Lowest selected offer, leaving RM100 versus D230S1 for other installation needs.
- 160° diagonal coverage and an indoor chime without needing to select a separate chime model.
- Local microSD support up to 512GB, with a card bought separately; cloud storage is optional.
Cons
- 3MP rather than the other models’ 5MP; “2K” alone hides that distinction.
- Built-in battery does not offer D230S1’s removable-battery workflow.
- The verified manufacturer page promises person alerts, not the full person/pet/vehicle/package classification shown for D235.
Buy it for a modest entrance where basic person alerts and a tighter budget are decisive. Avoid it if continuous recording or a verified hardwire path is a must; those are not established D210 features in this comparison.
2. TP-Link Tapo D230S1: pay for the removable battery and hub

The D230S1 kit takes a different approach. Its 6700mAh battery is rechargeable and removable, and local recordings go to a microSD card installed in the hub, up to 512GB. That changes maintenance and storage placement: the battery can be removed for charging, while the card is not sitting in the outside doorbell. It does not make recordings immune to loss, theft or a poorly configured system, but the arrangement is a concrete reason to choose this model.
You get a 2K 5MP image, 4:3 live view and a 160° diagonal field of view. TP-Link describes colour night vision using a starlight sensor and spotlight, an indoor chime, two-way audio, an anti-theft alarm and intelligent notifications. Its battery examples are particularly useful: the official table illustrates about six months at ten daily 30-second triggers, three months at twenty and one month at sixty. These are manufacturer scenarios, not our measurements or a guarantee for your gate.
Pros
- Removable battery makes charging logistics different from D210’s built-in design.
- Hub-based card storage keeps the selected local storage arrangement indoors.
- 5MP capture and a 4:3 frame offer a clear specification upgrade over D210.
Cons
- RM100 above D210, while the verified diagonal field of view remains 160°.
- The hub needs indoor placement and power, so the kit is not simply one outdoor device.
- IP64 protection is a lower stated ingress rating than D210’s IP65 or D235’s IP66; none should be treated as permission to submerge it.
Choose D230S1 if charging a removable battery and keeping storage in a hub solve your actual problem. Skip it if you mainly want D235’s wider view and wired recording option: the price gap to D235 is only RM50 at these selected offers.
3. TP-Link Tapo D235: the most flexible overall purchase

D235 combines 2K 5MP video with a 180° diagonal field of view, a 10000mAh battery and IP66 water-and-dust resistance. The wider view is useful when the doorstep or package position would sit near the edge of a narrower frame. It is still essential to check the actual mounting angle: a wider lens cannot see through a gate pillar or fix a camera aimed into the wrong area.
The more important upgrade is the supported hardwire mode. TP-Link’s Malaysian page states continuous 24/7 recording when hardwired and warns that this mode does not support the existing chime. Do not assume the wires from any old doorbell are automatically compatible. Have the installer confirm the exact model’s electrical requirements, transformer and supplied chime arrangement; this article is not a wiring guide. Battery operation is the alternative, with an advertised maximum of 210 days subject to usage and environmental conditions.
Pros
- 180° diagonal coverage, 5MP detail and person/pet/vehicle/package notifications in the verified feature list.
- Battery use now, with a supported hardwire recording option if the property permits it.
- Only RM50 more than the selected D230S1 offer.
Cons
- Hardwiring adds compatibility checks and installation work beyond the RM399 device offer.
- Battery capacity and advertised days are not comparable real-world endurance test results.
- Superbuy’s dispatch estimate is conditional, so confirm stock and Sarawak delivery before paying.
Buy D235 if you want the broadest feature choice and can use its wider view or future wired mode. Avoid paying extra if D210 already covers a quiet sheltered doorstep and you will never use the upgrade.
Malaysia purchase checklist and final choice
Before paying, request the exact Malaysian-set model, the included chime or hub, invoice, warranty duration, claim channel and return terms in writing. We have not verified one universal warranty duration across these three selected sellers. Ask whether service requires return to Peninsular Malaysia and who pays freight from Kuching. A retailer’s available-order button is not a promise of same-day dispatch or successful Wi-Fi reception at a metal gate.
Budget separately for a suitable microSD card, any optional Tapo Care subscription and installation. Check Wi-Fi at the actual mounting point, not only beside the router. For a condominium, get permission before drilling and aim the activity zone away from unnecessary views into neighbours’ private areas. Review notifications and account access after setup. These cameras assist observation; no model guarantees parcel recovery or prevents every intrusion.
Our verdict: D235 is the overall pick at RM399 because the RM50 step from D230S1 buys materially wider coverage and a verified wired-recording option. D210 at RM249 is the value pick when simple visitor detection is sufficient. D230S1 at RM349 earns its place only when removable-battery maintenance and hub storage are the priorities. Choose the workflow you can maintain, not the largest battery-day headline.
