Home Security Cameras Malaysia: Tapo C225 vs C520WS vs C530WS

Choose the position first, not the biggest resolution number

A camera looking after a living room has a different job from one facing a wet driveway. At the Malaysian offers checked on 23 October 2026, TP-Link Tapo C225 costs RM209, C520WS RM229 and C530WS RM249 at ALL IT. Each selected offer is available and camera-only without a microSD card. These are research-based recommendations from the manufacturer’s Malaysian pages and the retailer’s exact variants, not a claim that we installed or tested these cameras.

Our best overall outdoor pick is C530WS: the current RM20 step above C520WS buys 3K 5MP rather than 2K QHD, while retaining outdoor weather resistance and Ethernet. The budget recommendation for an indoor room is C225, whose concealed-lens privacy control matters more there than a weatherproof shell. C520WS remains the outdoor value alternative when its discount becomes meaningfully larger. Do not put C225 outside just because it is the cheapest.

Three cameras, three practical buying decisions

Model / checked price Intended position Image and night features Connection and recording Main compromise
TP-Link Tapo C225 — RM209 Indoor room; physical lens concealment 2K QHD 4MP; selectable invisible 940nm IR 2.4GHz Wi-Fi; microSD up to 512GB or optional Tapo Care No outdoor weatherproof claim in this comparison
TP-Link Tapo C520WS — RM229 Outdoor gate or driveway; IP66 2K QHD; starlight sensor, spotlights and IR modes Wi-Fi or Ethernet; microSD up to 512GB or optional cloud Only RM20 below the 3K alternative today
TP-Link Tapo C530WS — RM249 Outdoor perimeter; IP66 3K 5MP; starlight colour night vision Wi-Fi or Ethernet; microSD up to 512GB or optional cloud More pixels cannot fix a poor mounting angle or weak lighting

The pan/tilt coverage is a range the camera can turn through, not a promise to record every direction simultaneously. Both outdoor models advertise 360° horizontal and 130° vertical coverage. A moving head can look away from the important entrance; choose an alert zone and parked view rather than assuming one device replaces several fixed viewpoints.

TP-Link Tapo C225: the sensible indoor privacy choice

C225 makes the strongest case when the lens shares a room with people, rather than a boundary wall. Its physical lens-conceal control gives occupants an obvious way to stop the view. The official page lists 2K QHD, an f/1.6 aperture, motion tracking, two-way audio and a selectable 940nm infrared mode. That invisible IR option is useful if a visible red glow would disturb someone nearby; it is not evidence that the camera is medically suitable as a baby monitor.

Pros

lowest verified price of this trio, meaningful physical privacy control and indoor tracking without paying for an outdoor housing.

Cons

the retailer specifies 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so it does not solve a 5GHz-only network setup; local recording needs an extra card. Do not interpret the indoor product’s ability to rotate as an outdoor durability rating.

Buy it for: checking a living room or pet area where household consent and a lens-cover routine are practical. Avoid it for: an exposed porch, a site requiring Ethernet, or any setting in which a camera would intrude on private activities. At RM209 it saves RM40 against C530WS, but those savings disappear if you bought the wrong type of camera for the installation.

TP-Link Tapo C520WS: outdoor capability without chasing the headline

C520WS moves the spending towards installation needs: IP66 protection, external antennas and an RJ45 Ethernet connection. The manufacturer lists a 2K QHD view, starlight sensor, spotlights, infrared and smart night modes. A colour image may retain useful clothing or vehicle colour information, but that depends on the scene and lighting; we have not measured night identification performance.

Pros

a choice of wired or wireless networking, outdoor-rated housing and free manufacturer-listed person, pet and vehicle detection.

Cons

Ethernet networking is not the same as verified PoE power support; plan the specified power adapter and sheltered cable connections. Tapo Care is separate from the free detection features and the microSD card is not included in the selected offer.

Best for: a buyer whose outdoor mounting and cabling plan is already settled and who finds a substantial C520WS discount. Skip it when: today’s RM20 premium for C530WS is affordable and extra image detail is useful. C520WS is not bad simply because a successor has more pixels; at this particular price gap it has the weaker value argument. Do not select the cheaper C500 or C510W option from the shared retailer page by mistake: our quoted RM229 refers only to C520WS without an SD card.

TP-Link Tapo C530WS: our outdoor winner at this price gap

At RM249, C530WS offers 3K 5MP recording, IP66 weatherproofing and the same useful choice between Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Its official page lists motion tracking, patrol points, activity zones, two-way audio, sound/light alarms and person, pet and vehicle detection. The appeal is not an invented claim of better AI accuracy: it is the higher recorded detail for a small current premium, backed by a recognisable outdoor feature set.

Pros

just RM20 above C520WS for a 3K sensor output, flexible network connection and optional local recording up to 512GB.

Cons

increased resolution does not guarantee a readable moving number plate or a usable face at a distance. Spotlights can affect neighbours; set their intensity and aim with that in mind. It remains a mains-powered installation to plan, not a wire-free battery camera.

Choose C530WS for: an outdoor entrance where you can provide suitable power and want the stronger specification-per-ringgit of these two outdoor offers. Avoid paying the premium: if the view is a small indoor room, or if a later C520WS offer creates a much wider gap. A good camera angle, stable network and correctly placed power connection come before resolution upgrades.

Malaysia checkout: price, warranty and the real installed cost

ALL IT’s live product-variant data established RM209 / RM229 / RM249 and availability on the checking date; these are not guaranteed checkout totals. Shipping to Kuching or elsewhere in East Malaysia, memory cards, installation materials and optional cloud subscriptions can add cost. Compare the exact camera-only selection, not a blended “from” price across several models or a voucher that only some buyers can use.

The C225 retailer page explicitly advertises a two-year manufacturer warranty. We have not established an equally specific warranty term for the selected C520WS and C530WS offers, so ask for their local warranty route and invoice before payment rather than applying C225’s term to every model. Confirm hardware revision, Malaysian set status, included adapter and returns procedure; do not assume that similar overseas specifications or plug pictures guarantee the contents of your parcel.

For local storage, use a compatible card and choose a sensible recording/overwrite routine. A card left inside a stolen or damaged camera is not off-site backup. Cloud storage has separate subscription terms, while manufacturer-listed free AI detection is not a promise that all cloud features are free. Enable account security, restrict shared access and avoid aiming at a neighbour’s private space. No consumer camera guarantees crime prevention or replaces emergency help.

Final verdict

Buy C225 for an indoor room where physical privacy and the lowest spend are the priorities. Choose C530WS for an outdoor entrance at these prices: RM20 is a modest upgrade from C520WS for the higher resolution. Keep C520WS on the shortlist only when its actual checkout advantage is large enough to matter. The right installation category is the decisive first filter; the current price gap is the second.
