Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro Review Malaysia: Room Size & Filter Costs

Quick verdict: worthwhile for a larger room, if you budget for the filter

The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro (AC-M15-SC) makes most sense for a living room or large bedroom where you want more cleaning capacity than the 4 Lite. Its published particle CADR is 500m³/h. At a Malaysian retailer reference price of RM1,059, the stronger airflow is the main reason to consider it; the app and display make daily use more convenient.

The trade-off is ongoing cost. It uses its own 4 Pro filter, and Xiaomi’s published replacement guidance varies. Buy it with a realistic filter budget, enough floor space and a verified Malaysia warranty.

Who should buy it?

  • Good fit: you have one larger room to filter and want more capacity than Xiaomi’s smaller models.
  • Good fit: you will use app scheduling and can give a 68cm-tall appliance a permanent spot.
  • Less suitable: your priority is the lowest purchase and replacement-filter cost for a small bedroom.
  • Less suitable: you expect one machine to serve several closed bedrooms, or want maximum cleaning output at its advertised Night Mode noise.

What you gain over the 4 Lite

The 4 Lite’s published particle CADR is 360m³/h; the 4 Pro’s 500m³/h gives approximately 39% more rated clean-air output. That calculation compares each model’s stated output, not measured performance in our home. The 4 Pro also adds PM10/coarse-particle sensing alongside PM2.5 monitoring. This is useful information, but the extra airflow matters more than the display when choosing a machine for a larger room. [7]; [3].

Advantages

  • Higher published CADR gives more capacity for one larger room.
  • App control, automatic operation and an on-device display offer convenient ways to manage it.
  • The dedicated filter’s dimensions and model number are clearly documented, making compatibility easier to check.

Trade-offs

  • The tall, 6.8kg body is less convenient to move between rooms.
  • Replacement costs can add up, especially if the filter needs changing more often than once a year.
  • App setup is needed to switch off the ionisation feature, which Xiaomi says is enabled by default.

The network connection uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Check that your home network supports it and that you are comfortable using Xiaomi Home if you want control over ionisation. [8].

How much room can it realistically cover?

Start with Xiaomi’s 35–60m² guidance, then consider your ceiling and the fan speed you will actually tolerate. Our calculation using 500m³/h and a 2.7m ceiling gives about 4.6 equivalent air changes per hour in 40m², or 3.1 in 60m²: CADR ÷ floor area ÷ ceiling height. These are sizing examples at the stated output, not measured results or health targets. They assume one room and do not account for fresh pollution, leakage or uneven mixing.

Xiaomi’s “15 minutes for 40m²” claim is a calculated single-cycle time at maximum output with a 3m ceiling. It does not mean all pollution disappears in 15 minutes. Likewise, the 33.7dB(A) figure applies to Night Mode; do not combine it with maximum CADR as though both happen together. [3].

Our buying judgment: the 4 Pro is easier to justify when you want cleaning capacity in reserve for a living room. For a very large open-plan area, calculate the whole connected space before relying on the 60m² headline.

Filter costs matter more than the headline price

Use the M15R-FLP-GL 4 Pro filter. Xiaomi says other models’ cartridges are not interchangeable. The filter product page recommends 6–12 months, but the support FAQ says generally 3–6 months. We cannot resolve that inconsistency from the published material, so a once-a-year budget would be optimistic for some homes. Follow the replacement reminder and the instructions for your unit. [9]; [8].

Connect First’s public catalogue lists the 4 Pro filter at RM199. We use that as a planning reference; stock and final seller pricing need confirmation. The following is an annualised ongoing allowance, not a prediction of your first-year spending, because the purifier includes its first filter.

Replacement assumption Annual filter allowance at RM199 each
Every 12 months RM199
Every 6 months RM398
Every 3 months RM796

[10]. Delivery is excluded. Cheaper multi-model listings need careful checking: a “4-series” title alone does not establish that you have selected the 4 Pro cartridge or that it is genuine.

For electricity, a simple scenario at the 50W rating gives 146kWh/year for eight hours a day, or 438kWh/year for continuous use. At an illustrative RM0.50/kWh, that is RM73 or RM219 a year. This tariff is an example, not a quoted Malaysian tariff; use your own marginal rate. Actual power varies with operating mode, and we have not measured it. Standby use is excluded from the eight-hour example.

Maintenance and limits to keep in mind

Switch off and unplug before maintenance or filter changes. Remove the replacement filter’s packaging before installation. Keep the air inlets and filter compartment free of dust using the method in the manual; do not rinse the compartment or soak the unit. Cleaning the housing does not turn an exhausted cartridge into a new filter. [11]; [12].

Xiaomi calls its media a High Efficiency Filter. Its 99.97% claim concerns 0.3μm-particle filtration in a specified laboratory test, not the percentage removed from every room or proof of H13 classification. We make no claim that it prevents illness. Carbon in the cartridge can help with some odours, but a purifier cannot remove every pollutant or replace source control and suitable ventilation. [9]; [13].

Malaysia warranty and pre-purchase checklist

Xiaomi Malaysia lists one year for Mi Air Purifier, excluding the filter, and six months for accessories, with walk-in service, for covered mi.com/my purchases. redMALL separately advertises one year from Xiaomi Malaysia on this listing. Confirm the exact seller’s local warranty entitlement and keep the invoice; do not assume that every imported unit qualifies. [14].

  1. Match the box and listing to AC-M15-SC, not the 4, 4 Lite or an older Pro.
  2. Confirm the Malaysia plug, included filter and written warranty provider.
  3. Check genuine M15R-FLP-GL filter availability and delivered price.
  4. Measure the intended position and leave the clearances required by the manual.
  5. Compare the final total, delivery coverage and return conditions, especially for Sabah and Sarawak.

Final recommendation

Shortlist the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro if a larger room makes its 500m³/h rating useful and you can afford recurring filters. At the RM1,059 reference price, we would choose it for that extra capacity, while planning around the six-month filter scenario first. A small-bedroom buyer should compare the 4 Lite before paying more.

Check the exact 4 Pro listing, local warranty and current total before buying.

Research and source notes

This is a source-based buyer review, not a hands-on test or a scored laboratory ranking. Manufacturer specifications and tests are identified above; room and cost calculations are Eazy.my’s stated scenarios. Retailer claims are attributed to the seller. We have not verified checkout stock, independently measured noise or filtration, or tested long-term filter life.
