Quick verdict: spend the extra RM100 if the controls and charging will matter daily

The Apple AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case make most sense for an iPhone owner who likes earbuds without silicone tips and will use stem volume controls, wireless charging and the extra listening time. The official Malaysian reference is RM699, compared with RM599 for the standard AirPods 5. Both have Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), so paying more is a decision about everyday convenience, rather than simply obtaining ANC.

Apple AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case
Our recommendation is conditional: check the fit before treating the feature list as a reason to buy. If you are happy to charge by cable and control volume on your phone, the RM100 saving on the standard version is meaningful. If a rigid, open-ear shape usually feels loose or uncomfortable, neither version solves that by offering different ear-tip sizes.
This is a researched buying review, not a hands-on test. We have not measured sound, noise reduction, microphone quality, comfort or battery life. Manufacturer performance claims are identified as claims. Prices and source information were checked on 3 October 2026.
The facts that change the buying decision
| Item | Verified information | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Exact version | AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, white | Check the full name; standard AirPods 5 is a different package |
| Official MY reference | RM699 | RM100 above the RM599 standard model |
| ANC listening | Up to 5 hours per charge; up to 22 hours including case recharges | The case total is not one uninterrupted listening session |
| Charging | USB-C, Apple Watch charger or Qi-certified charger | Use compatible charging equipment you already own |
| Controls and case | Volume swipe on the stem; case speaker for Find My | Useful when your phone is in a bag, or the case is misplaced nearby |
| Durability | IP57; earbuds 4.3 g each | Water resistance is not permanent or permission to swim with them |
Prices and package differences are from [2]; hardware details are from the [3]. The wireless case measures 46.2 × 50.1 × 21.2 mm and weighs 34.7 g. That is a compact case to carry, but its size alone does not tell you whether the earbuds will stay in your ears.
Who should shortlist them, and who should pause?
- Good fit: an iPhone user who dislikes silicone tips, listens in shorter stretches and wants to adjust volume without reaching for a screen.
- Good fit: someone who already uses a compatible Qi or Apple Watch charger and prefers to reuse it for the earbuds.
- Less suitable: someone needing a long, uninterrupted work shift or flight from a single charge. Allow time to put the earbuds back in the case.
- Less suitable: an Android-first buyer paying mainly for Apple-specific integration, or anyone who needs the adjustable fit of replaceable tips.
Main benefits: open-ear ANC, direct volume adjustment, flexible case charging and a small carrying case. Main limits: one fixed earbud shape, a five-hour ANC ceiling in Apple’s test, missing charging accessories and features that depend on compatible Apple hardware and software. These are conclusions from the design and specifications, not comfort or listening scores.
ANC and sound: keep the advertised improvement in perspective
Apple says the new acoustic design and processing remove up to 50% more external noise than AirPods 4 with ANC. Its [4] also describes Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness. The former adjusts the blend of ANC and surrounding sound; the latter lowers media volume when you start speaking.
The percentage is a manufacturer comparison. It does not mean every Malaysian train, café or office will sound half as loud, and it is not our test result. For a buyer, the useful question is whether the noise left audible at a comfortable listening volume is acceptable. Try the fit and noise-control modes in person if a retailer offers a demonstration. A product that looks right on paper can still be the wrong shape for your ears.
We would not buy solely on descriptions such as richer sound or studio-quality recording. Those claims do not establish how your music or calls will sound. The practical attraction here is having noise controls in an open-ear design alongside easy daily controls.
Battery and Apple features: read the conditions
Apple also lists up to seven hours with noise control off. Its [5] use preproduction hardware, 50% volume, and Spatial Audio and Conversation Awareness switched off. Five minutes in the case is rated for around an hour of listening, with noise control off in that charging test. Actual use can be shorter.
Plan around your longest continuous listening session, rather than the larger case total. A commuter who charges during a break has different needs from someone who wants to keep both earbuds in for an entire afternoon.
The [6] describes integration across devices on your Apple Account. The specifications allow ordinary Bluetooth use with non-Apple devices but warn of limited functionality. Personalised Spatial Audio needs compatible content and hardware; a TrueDepth-equipped iPhone is needed to create the personal profile. Find My for this model requires iOS 27 or later. Check your own device support and update requirements before paying. We have not counted beta translation or AI features as guaranteed Malaysian buying benefits.
Ownership cost: RM699 may not be your complete starting budget
The Malaysian package excludes a USB-C cable and power adapter. If you already have a suitable charger and cable, extra charging cost can be RM0. A new Apple [7] and [8] were RM99 each. Buying both gives an illustrative total of RM897 before any delivery charges. They are optional examples, not mandatory Apple accessories or a promise of 60W earbud charging.
Care takes time as well as money. Follow [9], including the specified method for the meshes; do not rinse the earbuds under a tap or insert sharp tools. The instructions call for at least two hours of drying after the relevant wet-cleaning steps. A dirty mesh can affect performance, so check cleanliness before assuming the hardware is faulty.
A lost earbud or case is another potential cost. Apple offers replacement support, but we could not verify a current Malaysian price for this exact model: the public service-price estimator failed to load. Get an itemised quote before deciding between service and a new set. The [10] also says the standard and wireless-case AirPods 5 packages are not interchangeable; do not buy a replacement solely because the seller says “AirPods 5 case”.
Malaysian warranty and the final purchase checklist
[11] states one year of limited warranty for manufacturing issues. Normal battery wear and accidental damage are excluded; consumer-law rights remain separate. Optional [12] lists an RM139 headphone accidental-damage service fee and battery service at no additional fee when capacity drops below 80%, subject to the plan. That is not the price of the plan. We could not verify the exact plan premium in the page’s price table, so it is excluded from our budget.
- Confirm the full AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case name, condition and Malaysian warranty on the invoice. “AirPods 5 ANC” alone does not distinguish the two versions.
- Check delivery to your postcode and actual stock. On 3 October, Apple listed RM699 and DirectD showed RM699 with an Add to Cart control; no delivery postcode or checkout stock was verified.
- Check the seller’s fit and change-of-mind return terms before opening. Apple’s own [13] gives eligible products a 14-day return window subject to its conditions. A retailer does not automatically offer the same policy.
- Account for charging equipment, and keep the receipt for service. Compare the final payable amount rather than an instalment headline or an assumed voucher.
Choose this version when you will use the volume swipe, wireless charging or longer ANC listening often enough to justify RM100. If you want to compare different earbud designs and budgets first, see our Malaysian wireless-earbuds buying guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does the cheaper AirPods 5 already have ANC?
Yes. The RM699 package adds volume swipe, wireless case charging, a case speaker and longer specified battery life. ANC alone is not a reason to pay the extra RM100.
Can I use the case total as an all-day battery promise?
No. The 22-hour figure includes recharging in the case. Apple’s single-charge ANC figure is up to five hours under its test conditions.
Should I replace working AirPods 4 with ANC?
Not automatically. Compare the practical value of volume swipe and the longer stated listening time against spending RM699. Without a fit or listening test, we cannot promise a worthwhile personal upgrade.
